Under the plans that we inherited, fuel duty was due to go up by 5% in April. We stopped that.

It is true that a scheduled fuel-duty rise (the RPI uprating plus reversal of the temporary 5p/litre cut) was cancelled and the freeze extended (at Budget 2024 to April 2026 and Budget 2025 to end August 2026). However, the increase is a 5p-per-litre cut plus RPI, not a flat '5%'; the figure is a loose characterisation.

Method note. Verdicts are anchored to the data of the sources cited next to each check, never a judgement on people. When the evidence is not enough, the result is “Unverifiable”; no claim is marked as unconfirmed without a primary source cited.
