For the first time since 1964, under his government, Britain drilled no wells. ... Last year Norway's Labour government drilled 49 wells in the North Sea. How many did Britain drill? Zero.

Industry data confirm that no new exploration wells were drilled in UK waters in 2025 - the first time this has happened since 1964 - while Norway drilled around 30-40 exploration wells over the same year. The headline UK claim (zero, first since 1964) is accurate; the precise Norwegian figure of 49 refers to a broader well count.
